General description

Marchiafava-Bignami disease is a rare central nervous system disorder most commonly seen in individuals between their 40s and 60s who have a history of chronic alcohol use or malnutrition. It usually begins suddenly, often with seizures and loss of consciousness, followed by symptoms like confusion, difficulty speaking, memory issues, and sometimes dementia.

Radiographic features

MRI findings in Marchiafava-Bignami disease typically reveal bilateral symmetric areas of high signal intensity on T2WI and FLAIR sequences, along with restricted diffusion in the corpus callosum. In some cases, the cerebral cortex and subcortical white matter may also be involved.
