Poliomyelitis-like syndrome

Infectious diseases

General description

Asymmetric flaccid paralysis was historically attributed to Poliovirus. With the widespread implementation of vaccination programs against Poliovirus, the incidence of paralysis attributed to this virus has significantly declined. Nonetheless, it has become apparent that similar symptoms can be induced by other viruses, including Enterovirus, Herpes simplex virus, and West Nile virus.
